The Biomechanics of Safe Assists
**FOR YOGA TEACHERS ONLY**
Perhaps one of the edgiest things we learn during yoga teacher training is how to safely assist our students in postures. Ahimsa (do no harm) is the most important aspect of assists, whether we are providing them verbally or hands-on. Understanding of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics is necessary to be able to keep our students and ourselves safe from injury while assisting.
In this workshop, we'll explore a variety of ways to safely assist students in common yoga poses by honouring the innate design and biomechanics of the human form. Whether you're newly certified or have been teaching for years, there's always some new technique to learn.
Date: TBD
Time: 4 Hours
Location: TBD
Fee: $75 (handouts provided)

Restorative Yoga Basics
**FOR YOGA TEACHERS ONLY**
It was almost over 70 years ago when medical research discovered how our bodies relax when exposed to certain situations and practices and we first heard the term 'relaxation response'. Now more than ever, our physical, emotional and mental well-being needs this kind of practice.
You may have touched on it in your earlier yoga teacher training programs and perhaps you've even grown to love the practice yourself. Nonetheless, guiding students through a Restorative practice takes mindfulness and skill. In this workshop, we'll discuss the physiological benefits of a Restorative practice and review the logistics of helping your students settle into the healing comfort of various poses and pranayama.
Date: TBD
Time: 3 Hours
Location: TBD
Cost: $60 (handouts provided)

Yoga for the Vagus Nerve
**FOR YOGA TEACHERS ONLY**
The vagus nerve is part of the ‘rest and digest’ portion of our nervous system and its health is key in our ability to feel safe and calm. Considerable research is pointing to yoga as an effective way to develop optimal tone to this nerve which, in turn, assists in regulating the immune system, helping us to cultivate resiliency and minimize the negative impacts of stress. Learn about what asana, pranayama and meditation techniques can give your students the tools they need for self-regulation.

Biomechanics of Yoga: How to Practice Yoga Safely
**FOR YOGA TEACHERS and ADVANCED STUDENTS**
Ancient yogis were masters at meditation, breathing and spiritual contemplation…but not necessarily biomechanics. The asana practice imported to the West has its roots in not only traditional yoga but also martial arts, gymnastics, body building and wrestling. While modern day asana practice has many benefits, because of these influences, there are also a number of risks. Learn about the history of modern day asana, the biomechanics of the human form and how a safe yoga practice is one that honours the natural design of our bodies.

Gazing Within: Cultivating Awareness in Forward Bends
**FOR YOGA TEACHERS ONLY**
Forward Bends in yoga not only stretch out tight hamstrings and calf muscles but they also possess the added bonus of ‘gazing within’. However, forward bending is what we humans do 'tens of thousands' of times every day while living our daily lives.
When practicing or teaching Forward Bends, it is critical that they honour the design of the 4 curves of the spine or else they only end up reinforcing postural imbalances acquired off-the-mat. Learn how biomechanics and the natural curves of the spine play a pivotal role in practicing and teaching forward bends safely.
